A dog found in a dumpster Monday morning, duct tape covering his head and holding his legs together, is back with his family.
“I’m really happy he’s home, but sad he went through all that,” owner ErinDillon-Pasillas said. “I hope they find the people who did it, and they get what is coming to them. Something needs to happen, so this doesn’t happen again.”
Nebraska Humane Society CEO Pam Wiese called the act “blatantly evil.” The dumpster behind Sweet & Associates at 2407 S. 130th Circle was emptied a half hour after Leo was found Monday. Otherwise, he would have been crushed to death.
Leo was microchipped, so he was able to be reunited quickly with his owners after the tape was removed by Humane Society staff.
Dillon-Pasillas, who lives in Papillion, took the 1½-year-old cavapoo to her veterinarian for a full checkup. He’s being treated for two ear infections and a rash around his snout.

“He’s trying to be happy, but his tail is under. That’s a sign of stress,” Dillon-Pasillas said. “He’s such a happy dog. He’s trying to be that way. He’s running around.”
Dillon-Pasillashad reported Leo missing Thursday. She thinks he either slipped out while she was taking her son to school or someone took the dog. A tracker found no scent past their cul-de-sac.
“I didn’t have a collar on him,” she said. “The chip saved us.”
Nebraska Humane Society animal control responded to a call at 10 a.m. Monday from staff at Sweet & Associates.
An employee had heard what she thought was a raccoon in the dumpster the night before, but it was dark, and she wasn’t comfortable checking. The staff was dumbfounded to find the little dog. His entire head was wrapped, leaving only the snout open.
“HUGE shoutout to Kevin Wiederin and Judy O’Halloran of Sweet & Associates for saving Leo’s life,” a release from the Humane Society said.
Wiese said Leo was anesthetized so the tape could be removed without hurting him further. It took about a half hour, and some of Leo’s hair had to be shaved off. He has some mild skin irritation, the release said, but once untaped, he wagged his tail.
A reward will be offered to anyone who has information about the case. Wiese said that unfortunately, the area was not well-lit, and there were no cameras.
“It’s really hard unless someone saw something that night,” Wiese said.
Because Leo didn’t die, the perpetrator would be charged with a misdemeanor and would face the possibility of a $500 fine and six months in jail. Call 402-444-7800 Ext. 1 with any information.
“It’s deliberate, and so I find that way unsettling that someone would do this just because it’s mean or because they could,” Wiese said.
