Caprese Salad Recipe (2024)

This Caprese Salad Recipe is a great way to use up tomatoes from the garden or pop over to a local farmers market to get that homegrown taste.

You don’t need to be a foodie to love Caprese Salad! It is so simple to make with just a few ingredients and the vibrant red, white and green colors make it a feast for the eyes as well!

I am all about a pretty presentation and easy-to-make recipes when I entertain – this has both.

I like to serve my Caprese salad recipe on a large white platter with a wide rim around the edges so that when I drizzle my dressing, I can take it beyond the salad and create drippings on the rim… a pretty presentation – yay!

The easy part is that you can cut the tomato and mozzarella with the basil ahead of time and add the dressing just before serving! Couldn’t be easier!!

For a party, this salad can be made ahead of time, refrigerated and the glaze added just before serving.

Slice the tomatoes about 1/4″ thick.

On a big platter alternate the sliced mozzarella cheese and tomatoes in long rows down the plate.

Chop several leaves of basil and sprinkle on top.

Place a few bunches of basil leaves in the corner of the platter for decoration.

This can be refrigerated for several hours until ready to serve.

Taking the balsamic glaze, drizzle the dressing using big wide passes back and forth over the tomatoes and mozzarella, onto the edges of the platter. This looks pretty just for presentation purposes!

Caprese Salad Recipe Ingredients:

With only four ingredients, you can make a delicious salad with fresh tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. It’s also great to use basil from your garden!

  • Roma Tomatoes
  • Fresh Mozzarella Cheese
  • Basil
  • Balsamic Glaze

What Are Roma Tomatoes?

The Roma tomato is a delicious and versatile fruit that can be used in a variety of dishes. This juicy little tomato is perfect for snacks, salads, and pizzas. Roma tomatoes are oval-shaped with a bright red color. They have a firm texture and a slightly acidic flavor.

Roma tomatoes are also known as plum tomatoes or Italian tomatoes. They are originally from Italy but are now grown all over the world. If you’re looking for a delicious tomato to add to your next meal, look no further than the Roma tomato!

Caprese Salad Directions:

  1. For this recipe, I used Roma tomatoes selecting ones that were similar in size to the width of my mozzarella cheese.
  2. Slice the tomatoes about 1/4″ thick.
  3. Mozzarella cheese – If you live by a Costco, I highly recommend buying their BelGioioso Mozzarella Cheese as it is pre-sliced! Makes it the Caprese Salad so easy to prepare! At Costco, you get two in a pack.
  4. Fresh basil. Some chopped and some for decoration.
  5. Honey Balsamic Salad Dressing or another balsamic dressing. I like to make it easy on myself. I could make my own balsamic reduction or dressing, but I am happy using a bottled version.

This salad can be made ahead of time, refrigerated and add the dressing just before serving. Garnish with basil.
